ZEN RADIO is a band whose hard-driving yet melodic style has been compared to bands as diverse as The Police and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Working from a wide variety of influences, the band's sound ranges from memorable, accessible tunes to blistering rock.

ZEN RADIO's sound is characterized by the thundering rhythm section of bassist/vocalist Jeff Schoonover and drummer/vocalist Scott Davies. Vocalist/guitarist Doug Scott completes the band's unique sound with his strong singing and innovative guitar style. Their powerful, progressive sound leaves listeners wondering how three people make this much beautiful noise.

ZEN RADIO was proud of the integrity they brought to their music. Doug Scott explains, "We wrote songs that mattered to us... and we hope they mattered to our audience, too. We wanted to connect with people in a true, emotional way." "Our music was an outlet for us and the audience," adds Scott Davies, "It's part fun, part struggle and part therapy."

The band separated in 1997, but all members continue to make music, with drummer Scott Davies joining the phenomenally funky Denver-based Opie Gone Bad (www.opiegonebad.com), and Doug Scott forming new band Strange Loop (www.maida.net/strangeloop).

Discography

In fall of 1992, the band released an independently-produced album of original music, called "Cannibals & Atrophy." The songs range from the driving dance rhythm of "Shifting Sand," to the hard-edged crunch of the title track. No theme is off limits in the heartfelt lyrics that address topics from environmental protest ("Lying on the Ground") to reflections on lost innocence ("Better Times")". To date, the CD has sold more than 3500 copies.

In spring on 1995, Zen Radio released a 6-song EP follow-up entitled "Meanwhile". This second effort was harder-edged than their debut release, the tougher sound reflecting influences like Rage Against the Machine and Primus. Though this EP had only limited release, the band members feel that the songs are among their best. According to singer/guitarist Doug Scott: "We really found our true sound on these songs: a big, fat heavy underpinning with tuneful melodies floating on top."

Live Performances

Zen Radio was well known to fans for their energetic, explosive live performances. From 1990 through 1996, ZEN RADIO played extensively throughout the southwest US, receiving overwhelmingly enthusiastic responses. Fans knew to expect a passionate performance at a ZEN RADIO show, says Davies: "We don't fake it; we mean it."
